Discover the wonders of Nag-Aso Boiling Lake in Manito, Albay! This three-hectare thermal gem is a sight to behold, surrounded by lush green fields and tall trees. The name “nag-aso” means steaming or boiling in Bicolano, and it perfectly describes this vibrant spot.
Locals and visitors enjoy a unique experience here. They boil eggs in the lake, and within ten minutes, they’re perfectly hard-boiled! The lake is fed by a hot spring in its northeastern corner, with a temperature of about 100 °C (212 °F).
The lake is a freshwater pool with striking green waters. This color comes from sulfur oxide released by Earth’s natural vents in the nearby Pocdol mountain range. Because of the high temperature, no fish can survive in these waters.
In some areas, you can see steam rising and bubbles bursting. When the tide is high, seawater from Albay Gulf floods the basin, but the lake continues to display its mesmerizing steam and bubbles. It’s a natural wonder waiting for you to explore!
