Tiwi, Albay Celebrates 16th Coron Festival 2022 After Two-Year Hiatus
TIWI, ALBAY — After a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the town of Tiwi in Albay province is once again celebrating its much-anticipated Coron Festival, now on its 16th year.
The festivities kicked off on Friday, August 5, with a Thanksgiving Mass followed by a vibrant civic and float parade that showcased the town’s rich cultural heritage—most notably its long-standing tradition of pottery-making, a hallmark of Tiwi craftsmanship.
In collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the local government also launched a trade exhibit titled "Disenyo Ceramika" at SM City Legazpi. The exhibit highlighted a variety of locally made ceramic products, giving artisans a valuable platform to promote their creations.
Festival-goers even had the chance to try their hand at pottery-making—from molding and shaping to painting a finished piece, all for a fee of just P350.
“This is one way of assisting our ceramic artisans in promoting their unique products and, of course, attracting more tourists to our province,” said Albay Governor Noel Rosal.
Running until August 26, the 2022 Coron Festival features a full lineup of events, including concerts, parades, sports competitions, and religious activities, promising a vibrant celebration of Tiwi's heritage, resilience, and creative spirit.
